A monthly event where neighbourhood dwellers can come together to repair their clothing and make alterations to their favourite pieces with the help of skilled craftswomen.
In the heart of our Mending Club workshop, the simple act of repairing clothing transcends the realm of needle and thread; it becomes a powerful statement of sustainability, mindfulness, and community. As we gather to mend frayed seams and patch worn fabrics, we weave together more than just threads – we mend the very fabric of our values. Each stitch symbolises a commitment to reducing waste and embracing a more sustainable lifestyle, breathing new life into garments that might have otherwise been discarded. Beyond the practical skill of sewing, the Mending Club fosters a sense of connection, as participants share stories, tips, and laughter, creating a supportive community that values the art of restoration. In a world often characterised by fast fashion and disposable culture, our Mending Club stands as a beacon of meaningful change, proving that a single stitch can unravel a tapestry of positive transformation.
Hosted at the Amsterdam House of Arts and Crafts we plan on welcoming our neighbours monthly from 18h - 21h30 with snacks, refreshments and good music while we join together to fix our clothing. The workshop is hosted by Isabel Wolfs and Sarah Barchichat, both fashion designers working from the atelier. We will provide all the necessary haberdashery needed such as buttons, zippers, and the like to be able to repair clothing as well as offer our expertise to make it happen. Up to now it has been self-funded and we must unfortunately charge attendees but we believe it is a great opportunity to be more inclusive to a wider audience if we receive this grant.
